A Japanese man known online as Toco, who famously spent over $14,000 to transform himself into a hyper-realistic Border Collie costume, has hinted at his desire to become another animal.
Toco, who keeps his real name private, documented his entire transformation journey on his YouTube channel “I Want to Be an Animal.” Driven by a lifelong dream of experiencing life as an animal, Toco meticulously crafted a costume that allows him to walk on all fours, eat dog food, and even learn tricks.
Exploring Toco’s Next Animal Transformation
In a recent interview with a Japanese news outlet, Toco revealed a yearning to explore life as a different creature. While acknowledging logistical limitations, he expressed interest in becoming a panda, bear, or another dog breed. He acknowledged the challenges of mimicking smaller animals like foxes or cats due to their size discrepancy with humans.
“There are four animals I want to try,” Toco said, speaking to WanQol. “Dogs and humans have different bone structures…it’s very difficult to make movements that look like a real dog.”
Despite these challenges, Toco remains dedicated to his dream. He finds encouragement in the comments he receives on his YouTube channel, where many viewers express a desire to follow in his footsteps.
Psychologists suggest that Toco might be a Therian, an individual who identifies with a non-human animal species. Therianthropy should not be confused with the furry fandom, where participants enjoy occasional cosplay in animal costumes.
Toco’s story continues to spark curiosity and conversation, blurring the lines between human and animal experience. It remains to be seen which creature Toco will choose to embody next in his ongoing quest to fulfill his childhood dream.
