Optical illusions are a captivating way to test our perception, but one man took this concept to a whole new level by permanently inking one onto the back of his head.
Matt Pehrson, a talented tattoo artist at Zion Tattoo Company in Utah, USA, showcased his exceptional skills by creating an incredibly realistic design on his friend Ryan’s skull.
The tattoo artist managed to amaze thousands of his Instagram followers, garnering viral attention online. Originally posted in April 2020, the picture resurfaced recently and has received over 12,000 likes. Matt captioned it: “Did a crazy thing on my friend Ryan today… We have a lot left to finish on his dome. What do you all think of a piece like this?”
How This Optical Illusion Tattoo Came to Life
The design cleverly uses thick black lines to create the impression of a massive hole in Ryan’s head, accompanied by clever shading to enhance the illusion. This unique tattoo has sparked conversations and left viewers in awe of Matt’s talent.
Fans were quick to express their amazement, with one commenting: “Literally looks like he has a hole in the back of his head holy s*** good job,” while another exclaimed: “OMG that looks fantastic!!!!”
A third fan described it as “the most insane optical illusion,” while another was left “speechless.”
Responding to numerous requests, Matt posted a video last year showcasing the finished piece from multiple angles. He explained, “Of course, the tattoo only looks ‘perfect’ at a limited viewing angle. Still looks like a rad tattoo from other angles, it just doesn’t make your tummy hurt.”
The video received immense praise, with one follower writing: “You killed this,” and another stating: “Absolutely stunning from every angle.”
