Pharrell Williams
Pharrell Williams may be on diaper duty these days (the multi-hyphenate talent and his wife Helen Lasichanh are the proud new parents of triplets) but he’s also making history at Chanel.
As the first man to star in a bag campaign for the French luxury brand, Williams brings his cooler-than-cool personality in the final Gabrielle video. The previous three films starred Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Caroline de Maigret.
In this film, directed by Antoine Carlier (the French creator of pop videos and music documentaries), Williams discovers an empty concert hall that becomes a playground for the singer. He opens up about his experience on set in an exclusive “making of” video. “He walks into this place looking for someone, or looking for some people. No one’s there and if he’s going to have fun, it will be his way,” says Williams. “My character in the movie is a guy that’s probably…really into Chanel, a lot like I am right now. And a lot like myself, he probably just didn’t want to take the bag off.”
Williams also shares that he’s a longtime fan of Coco Chanel. “It’s safe to say Gabrielle has unconventional style and taste. I love that there’s always this consistent thread of poetry in the cause and reasoning for her doing these things and making these pieces.”
