Forget backyard forts and lemonade stands. These three explorer extraordinaire boys stumbled upon something far more prehistoric – a real-life T Rex fossil!
Jessin and Liam Fisher (10 and 7 years old, respectively) were on a North Dakota hike with their cousin Kaiden Madsen (9) and dad, Sam, when their curiosity kicked in. Peeking out from the rugged Badlands near Marmarth was a sight unlike any other – a bone unlike anything they’d ever seen.
Kids Stumble Upon Real T. Rex Fossil!
With a thirst for knowledge bubbling up, the boys turned to Sam’s high school classmate, Dr. Tyler Lyson. Now a paleontological rockstar (aka Curator of Paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science), Dr. Lyson knew this could be a big deal. He joined the family for a follow-up dig in 2023, and their hunch was right! After careful excavation, Dr. Lyson’s team confirmed it – a juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil!
This wasn’t your average rock collection find. This was a rare and valuable scientific discovery, thanks to the keen eyes and adventurous spirit of these three young paleontologists.
Get ready to be dino-dazzled! The incredible fossil will be unveiled to the public at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s “Discovering Teen Rex” exhibit, opening June 21st. The exhibit promises to be a prehistoric playground, featuring the newly discovered juvenile T. Rex alongside an exclusive documentary titled “T. Rex.”
“These boys’ love for exploration unearthed not just bones, but a scientific treasure,” Dr. Lyson said. “Their discovery not only adds to our understanding of T. Rex but also inspires a generation of curious minds to become the paleontologists of tomorrow!”
So, grab your magnifying glasses and dino-mite spirit! This summer, the Denver Museum offers a chance to witness history unearthed by the courage and curiosity of three young adventurers. It’s a story that proves – sometimes, the greatest discoveries are just a backyard adventure away.
