Severn Trent, one of the Britains’s leading water companies, has shared some of the most peculiar discoveries made in its sewers, including unexpected items like a Dora the Explorer action figure and a Ken doll.
The company, responsible for providing water services to regions such as the Midlands, Bristol, parts of Sheffield, and north and mid-Wales, compiled a list of the “strangest and funniest things that have made their way into the sewers.”
Dora to Bed Frame in Britain Sewers
Topping the list were toys like a Dora the Explorer action figure, which “clearly went on quite an explorative adventure,” and a Ken doll. These were followed by peculiar items like fragments of a garden shed, dentures, underwear, a dismantled bed frame, and even pairs of spectacles.
In addition to these oddities, Severn Trent’s sewer workers have also stumbled upon more commonplace items, including wallets, keys, cutlery, and surprisingly, car tires.
Grant Mitchell, Severn Trent’s head of sewer blockages, expressed amusement at the discovery of these unusual items, stating that it’s “anyone’s guess” how some of the larger objects ended up in the sewer.
Despite the occasional unusual find, Mitchell emphasized that the most common culprits for blockages are wet wipes and other “unflushable” items like diapers and sanitary products. He urged the public to remember to only flush the “three P’s” down the toilet — pee, poo, and paper — and to dispose of everything else in the bin.
While uncovering these items can add an element of surprise to their work, Severn Trent’s sewer workers remain focused on maintaining the integrity of the sewers of Britain and ensuring that it operates smoothly for the communities it serves.
