Move over, interns and political scandals, there’s a new headline stealer in D.C. – and it has wings. In a viral video that’s leaving viewers both amused and slightly concerned about avian hygiene, a bird decided NewsNation reporter Kellie Meyer’s head was the perfect perch for catching the latest White House gossip.
The clip shows Meyer, poised and professional, waiting for her live shot. Suddenly, a feathered friend swoops in, mistaking her perfectly coiffed hair for a landing strip. Meyer’s eyes widen like a cartoon owl as she ducks down, a surprised “Oh my God” escaping her lips.
Bless her journalistic professionalism, though, because despite the feathery intruder, she manages not to lose her cool completely. A valiant attempt to maintain a serious face is punctuated by a few giggles, making the whole thing even funnier.
Taking to her social media like a champ, Meyer shared the video with the caption:
“GUYS. I know there was a lot of news today, but a bird landed on my head at the White House right before I went live… He really just wanted to tune in.”
The internet, of course, had a field day. Comments ranged from praising Meyer’s composure
“You fighting for your life to keep a straight face has me dying” to appreciating the comedic timing of the whole incident “This is the best video to come out of the WH lawn for Biden’s whole admin. Well done”.
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time a reporter got a surprise head-bird. Turns out, feathered friends have a thing for live broadcasts, with a mourning dove (according to an internet bird expert) previously landing on a Chicago reporter’s head during a live segment.
So, the next time you see a reporter looking a little ruffled (literally), you might just have the answer. It seems even the most serious news stories can’t compete with the comedic genius of a bird landing on someone’s head.
