For once you have tasted flight you will
walk the earth with your eyes turned
Skywards, for there you have been
And there you will long to return.

Try once a flight, and your eyes
Forever will be directed to the sky.
Once there having been, for life
You are doomed to miss it.

Leonardo da Vinci

On March 16 at City Club International we presented to our journalists the leading Russian business, industry and IT publications our new Epson Moverio BT -300.

The highlight of the event was a clear demonstration of how the new model of video glasses is great for using as a so-called. FPV for quadrocopter. A brand new DJI Phantom 4 was chosen as the drone, and you can see a brief report from the event itself with the most interesting moments:

And now a few words about the product itself and its technical characteristics (of course, with the drones, you are probably already familiar without us =)

Not Revolution, but evolution

In February 2017, the Epson Moverio BT-300 video glasses went on sale to the Russian market. Earlier we talked about the previous version of the Moverio BT-200 glasses: and even held a developer competition, which we were both pleased with ourselves and the participants.

So, the Epson Moverio BT-300 is the world’s lightest transparent binocular video glasses.

Their weight is only 69 grams . It would seem that the difference of 19 g between versions is not so significant, but when you have to wear such glasses for a long time without weariness – the absence of these 19 grams is a weighty advantage.

However, the main feature is an entirely new display based on Si technology -OLED! Look at the picture – as they say, the difference to the face !

si-OLED – the development of Epson’s engineers. Thanks to this technology, each pixel of the image is a source of light and glows only when it is needed. What does this give? Correctly! Great contrast and excellent color rendering. I want to say about the contrast separately. In the previous version of the glasses, a more or less traditional illuminated LCD matrix was used, so that you could see the boundaries of the projection area, even if the screen did not display an image (the most notorious “exposure” or as it is often called abroad – “glow “)

In the case of Si-OLED, this effect is no longer observed. The image from the glasses is ideally “superimposed” over the visible through the transparent glasses of the surrounding space, which allows for an even greater immersion in the world of augmented reality. I think that many owners of telephones or TVs with OLED screens perfectly understand how cool this is.

Otherwise, the successor to the Epson BT-200 can all be the same as the previous version, only with a better camera and

For clarity of difference, the Epson Moverio BT-300 from the previous model was designed in a small tablet:

What does Epson have to do with it? And DJI?

The matter is that in the autumn of 2016 the company Epson announced the cooperation with the company DJI, however, especially of attention to this partnership, we have not been given. Of course, with the release of the Epson BT-300 we plan to improve, and we proudly position the new video points as FPV for the DJI drones (and not only).

Many of you know that DJI is a leading manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles UAV). The result of the joint work was the application DJI GO, optimized for working with Epson Moverio BT-300 video glasses. The DJI GO application is compatible with the DJI series drones of the Phantom, Inspire, Matrice and Mavic series, and with the DJI Osmo system.

How does it work? ]

To begin with, it’s enough to download the application DJI Go from the application market of the Moverio App Market application and install it on the glasses. After launching the application, follow the prompts on the glasses screen to set up and connect the glasses with the control panel of the drone. All!

Thanks to the built-in BT-300 displays, the pilot sees the image from the drones camera, and due to the fact that the glasses are transparent, they can observe directly the flight of the drone itself. This solution meets the European requirements of aeronautical agencies for unmanned aerial vehicles, in particular, the principle that UAVs must remain within the immediate visibility of the pilot.

Other opportunities

] in addition to improving the safety of UAV piloting a comprehensive solution “glasses and drone” provides users with a new tool to work with augmented reality in areas such as construction, agriculture, emergency services, nature protection activities, scientific research, cinema and many others.

Seeing

Points are available for testing in our Moscow demozale on Novoslobodskaya. We will be glad if you go to visit and share your impressions about working with Epson Moverio BT-300 on your blog or in the comments.

Thank you!
