An unidentified Chinese Man was Caught Smuggling Over 100 Snakes in His Pants at a Chinese Airport. The unnamed man, attempting to enter mainland China from Hong Kong, was apprehended on Tuesday after security officials discovered a shocking number of snakes hidden in his trousers.
Man Smuggling Snakes at Airport goes viral
The man, smuggling these snakes seemingly unfazed about declaring his unusual cargo, approached the “nothing to declare” gate in airport. However, a routine inspection revealed a fashion statement gone wrong – six canvas bags, meticulously sealed with tape, stuffed with snakes and strategically placed within the pockets of his trousers.
China Customs confirmed the discovery, detailing in a statement, “Once opened, each bag was found to contain living snakes in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors.” The scaly stowaways were identified as a mix of milk snakes, corn snakes, and various non-native species.
The man’s attempt to smuggle the snakes at the airport now has him facing legal repercussions. China Customs’ statement served as a stern warning. “Those who break the rules will be held liable in accordance with the law.”
Cracking Down on Creature Concealment
This incident highlights China’s ongoing struggle against animal trafficking, despite being a major hub for the illegal trade. Strict biosecurity and disease control regulations in the country prohibit the unauthorized entry of non-native animals.
The creative concealment of unusual cargo seems to be a recurring theme. Recent months have seen Chinese customs officials foil attempts to smuggle otters, prairie dogs, and hundreds of beetles. All cleverly hidden within clothing or luggage. Perhaps these smugglers need to find a less “scaled-down” approach for their future endeavors.
