11 Funny Scary Movies You’ll Love
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
“Shaun of the Dead” is a cult favorite of a genre combo of zombie horror and British humor. The story centers around Shaun, who is an everyday ordinary guy trying to cope with his life and the undead in a zombie apocalypse. The movie has tons of clever jokes, humorous situations, and a few moments that are genuinely scary. I think this is an awesome example of how horror and humor can come together without utterly ruining either one. It’s a must-see for zombie movie fans and comedy lovers.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)
This movie inverts the traditional horror story. In place of menacing hillbillies, we have a pair of good-hearted dudes, Tucker and Dale, who are misidentified as murderers by a gang of college students. The misunderstandings cause some hilarious, bloody conundrums. It’s a clever film that plays with horror clichés and makes fun of them. What I very much liked was that this movie had me laughing and still feeling the tension of a horror story.

“Zombieland” is a scary movie that combines humor with horror and is directed with wit and flair. It is the story of a group of survivors who fight to stay alive in a world where death is only the beginning. The movie is full of humor, action, and some legitimately chilling zombie scenes. The characters are indelible, particularly a surprise cameo by Bill Murray. This movie is for people who want comedy mixed with undead scares.
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
This film is a mockumentary about a group of vampires who share a house in New Zealand. “That’s the joke, you see — it’s vampires coping with mundane concerns like paying the rent and cleaning the house. The humor is dry and smart, and while the horror is light, it hits the spot. I believe this movie is special because it presents a supernatural horror style that resembles a documentary, all while being very entertaining.
Beetlejuice (1988)
“Beetlejuice” is a vintage horror comedy about a ghost couple that enlists the services of a mischievous spirit, Beetlejuice, in order to frighten away the new living tenants of their home. The movie is idiosyncratically styled and filled with weird characters and plenty of laughs. It’s directed by Tim Burton, who infuses it with dark whimsy. This movie is a good choice if you want something spooky that also provides plenty of laughs.

“Gremlins” begins as an adorable tale about a boy who gets an unusual pet known as a Mogwai. But when gives birth to mischievous and dangerous creatures called Gremlins, we get a mix of chaos and comedy. Evil Dead II (1987)
This movie is a sequel and a remake of the original “Evil Dead.” It’s infamous for its excessive gore and slapstick humor. The lead character, Ash, battles evil spirits in a cabin in the woods, and the movie mixes terrifying moments with over-the-top funny scenes. I think “Evil Dead II” is a cult classic as it shows us how horror as a genre can be funny and creative at once.
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
This movie begins as a standard scary movie with a group of friends heading to a remote cabin. But soon it’s apparent that something odd is going on. The film plays with horror tropes and delivers twists and humor. It’s clever, terrifying, and hilarious at once. If you like funny scary movies that make you think, this is an excellent choice.
Scary Movie (2000)
Scary Movie is a parody of horror films. It has jokes about “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The humor is silly and sometimes vulgar, but it’s very funny if you like spoofs. This is a movie for those who prefer to laugh at horror clichés than be scared by them.
Happy Death Day (2017)
This one is a mix of horror and time-loop comedy. The protagonist relives the day she is murdered over and over again until she learns who the killer is. The film mixes suspense, funny bits and a touch of romance. It is a fresh, new approach to the slasher genre. I recommend it for viewers wanting a little bit of laughs and scares.
The Final Girls (2015)
“The Final Girls” revolves around a group of friends who become trapped in an 80s slasher film. The film is a homage and a parody of old horror movies. It is full of funny dialogue, scary scenes, and drama. I think this film is good because it lovingly mocks and respects the horror genre.
