Gym
There’s going to the gym to keep fit, but Dan Hill perhaps took it a bit too far when he ended up being locked inside a 24 Hour Fitness gym after it had closed until the morning. He had visited the gym in Sandy, Utah for a swim in the evening on Saturday night, before getting out of the pool at about midnight and realizing that all doors were locked, and there was nobody else around.
He recounted the ordeal in a Facebook post, in which he lamented the fact that the gym didn’t live up to its name of being ’24 hour’. He called his wife, who said that he should find a “comfortable place” to get some sleep, but instead he ended up calling 911. Luckily, he was able to leave the gym at about 1am, but not before being able to show his Facebook friends around the gym in the meantime. Hilariously, the selfies taken by Dan while he was going to the gym proved to be a hit on social media, as he expressed his confusion in the images, which reached thousands of people online.
Confusion
The manager of the gym acknowledged the time-based confusion, explaining that the company’s hours changed just last month, from 24 hours to closing for four hours each day from midnight to 4am. “We clearly did not do a good job of our closing procedures for this club on Saturday night and will reinforce our club procedures so that this incident doesn’t occur in the future”, they said in a statement after the event. In fact, a lot of 24 Hour Fitness branches do open 24 hours as you would expect, with just a select few closing for a while in the middle of the night.
Last year, a young woman found herself stuck in a bookstore overnight in the UK in a similar mishap, but was also let out early despite seeing the funny side of the situation. As for Dan, hopefully his ordeal won’t have deterred him from going back to the gym. But if it has, there are other ways that he can get fit.
