Galena, a playful 6-year-old house cat from Utah, recently found herself in a whirlwind adventure that took her far from home, all because of her love for cardboard boxes.
Galena’s fascination with hiding and playing in cardboard led to an unexpected journey. One day, she ventured into a large Amazon package containing returned steel-toed boots. Unnoticed by her owners, the package was shipped back to Amazon, with Galena inside.
Utah Cat’s Unexpected Trek to California
When Carrie Clark, Galena’s owner, realized her beloved cat was missing, she and her family launched a frantic search. For seven days, they posted flyers and searched their neighborhood, fearing the worst.
“Not knowing what had happened to her was pretty excruciating,” Clark said, “I cried my eyes out for seven days trying to figure out what had happened.”
However, a ray of hope emerged when Clark received a text on April 17, revealing that Galena’s microchip had been scanned. This meant that Galena the Cat had been found, but the location was surprising – Riverside, California, far from their home in Utah.
“We realized that that our sweet kitty must have jumped into that box without us knowing,” she said.
Galena had been discovered in the Amazon package at a warehouse in California. Luckily, she was unharmed and safe. Clark was overjoyed and immediately made arrangements to bring Galena back home.

While her family is relieved to have her back, they are now cautious about letting her play with cardboard boxes.
