Won the lottery
Winning the lottery is something that many of us dream about, and for some people it comes as a great surprise, as they only spend a small amount of money occasionally. These people have won the lottery completely unexpectedly, just by spontaneously deciding to play.
A woman in Australia recently got more than she bargained for when she unexpectedly won the lottery. Taking a watch to get repaired, it turned out that the cost of the repairs was less than she expected. With some of the leftover cash, she bought a scratchcard on a whim and she ended up winning $50,000 – a lifechanging amount of money. She described the decision as being “spur of the moment”, but “the best thing I ever did”.

Just two months ago, there was a similar case in the UK. 42-year-old Vicky Mitchell had £1.50 (about $1.83 USD) left in her online lottery account. She originally thought that she’d won £5 but actually, she had won £10,000 a month for the next thirty years, through the Set For Life draw. It will take her up to her early seventies, by which time her two children will firmly have their own lives. Not a regular player, she never expected to have won the lottery, only playing to get rid of the money left in her account. She plans to move house and get her own car, as well as travel to Budapest and go for a few other city breaks.
Last year, a man in Connecticut won the lottery to the tune of $97,028 – when he thought it would only be a $300 prize. He asked him mom to write the winning numbers down for him, but she wrote one of the numbers incorrectly by mistake. When Armando Ortiz went to redeem his ticket, he realised that he’d matched all five numbers, instead of the four that he had originally thought.
Winning the lottery isn’t for everyone, but there’s plenty of other ways to get rich. But if you do, make sure to look after your finances so that you don’t end up like these celebrities. For more weird stories, go to our homepage!
