Ashley Class, a home designer from Charlotte, North Carolina, found herself in a bizarre and harrowing situation involving her three-year-old daughter, monsters, and an unexpected discovery of a massive beehive inside her farmhouse.
It all began innocuously enough, with Ashley’s daughter complaining about “monsters” in her bedroom. At first, Ashley dismissed it as a product of her daughter’s active imagination, possibly influenced by watching Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.”
However, as time passed, Ashley’s concerns grew when she noticed swarms of bees circling around the chimney.
Deciding to investigate further, Ashley called in pest control, expecting to find a small beehive. What they discovered, however, was beyond anything she could have imagined – a hive housing an estimated 50,000 honeybees.
Beehives and Nightmares
Shocked and bewildered, Ashley documented the discovery on TikTok, sharing thermal camera footage showing the hive inside the wall of her farmhouse.
As if one hive wasn’t enough, further inspections revealed another hive, bringing the total bee count to a staggering 60,000. The hive, which had been growing for eight months, contained a massive 100 pounds (45.3kg) of honeycomb and honey.
Beekeeper Curtis Collins, who has years of experience removing hives from homes, expressed his amazement at the size of the hive, noting that it was the first time he had encountered one that spanned from floor to ceiling.
Describing her 100-year-old home as reminiscent of the TV show “Stranger Things,” Ashley expressed her disbelief at the situation. Unfortunately, her home insurance would not cover the damage, leaving her facing an estimated $20,000 (£16,000) in losses.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected challenges homeowners can face and highlights the importance of addressing even seemingly minor issues promptly.
