A bonus to the end – a demonstration of “shooting” from a gun.
It’s quite obvious that the weapon was produced by Hikvision. But it is known in the market primarily for excellent video surveillance systems. Founded in 2001, the company has grown from 28 to 17,000 employees in such a short time. And in the state there are more than 7000 engineers who are engaged in R & D or scientific developments. Perhaps, this weapon was developed in the fight against the drones of competitors who looked in the windows to the engineers of Hikvision, but this is not a proven fact. And the fact is that this gun works.
Let’s return to the statistics.
Judging by the analysts’ forecast, we are expecting an increasing filling of the flight zone with various types of unmanned aerial vehicles. And although the military budget for UAV changes very slowly (based on US statistics), commercial and civilian use of drones will continue to develop.
And it’s not so much about protecting the private territory, when some citizens do not want to publicize the area of storage tanks the location of objects on the territory, how much is the restriction of flights over a particular zone.
From the above, there are only two ways out: the physical destruction of the drone or the disabling of the control systems of the drone with its immediate landing or expulsion outside the protected area.
It’s time to talk about the possibilities and principles of the gun operation. And the principle of operation is simple and effective: interrupt communication with the control unit and mute the satellite navigation signal.
The gun silences three ranges at once: GNSS (GPS / GLONASS / Galileo L1 / BeiDou B1), 2.4G, 5.8G. The confident distance of defeat reaches 1200 meters. Power consumption in the active mode is up to 100W. Signal power at the frequencies: 39.5dBm (1.5 GHz) 50.5dBm (2.4 GHz) 48.5dBm (5.8 GHz). The question arises: what will happen to the navigator of the aircraft, if it falls into the sight of such a gun? And there will be absolutely nothing: the civil band L1 operates at a frequency of 1575.42 MHz, and the planes receive a navigation signal from satellites at a frequency of L2 1227.6 MHz. The direction of the antenna is 29 degrees diagonally and 25 degrees vertically, so you can not aim carefully.
How does it work?
If you just need to drive away the drone, it’s enough to muffle the signal from the operator’s console. Virtually all drones can return to the starting point on the GPS coordinates when the communication with the remote control is lost.
If it is required to force a drone, then it is necessary to muff not only the signal from the console, but also the satellite navigation signal. When all communications are lost, the drones are programmed to land. In this case, the UAV will remain in the foreign territory if the operator decided to fly over the closed object.
Now consider what the whole system is made of.
- Power adapter
- The control unit
- The battery
- The radiating antenna
- The trigger is the activator of the radio emitter
- Adjustable butt
- Indicators: charge / battery status, active mode, radiation mode; Regulators of radiation power by frequencies
- 9-fold optical sight
Note that the gun is mounted two Pikatini slats, which means that you can change the sight or add a body kit. And although the angle of the gun is quite wide, the 9-fold sight will not be superfluous, especially with a shooting distance of a kilometer or more.
Now it remains to understand how much this design weighs and how long it can work autonomously. To do this, refer to the specification. So, the manufacturer promises not less than 10 hours in standby mode and at least 1.5 hours in shooting mode – and this is a very good result considering the power output. But you have to pay for everything. The weight of the gun is 3 kg, the control unit is 3.5 kg and the battery is 0.9 kg.
Dimensions of the control unit: 315 x 230 x 96.5 mm
Dimensions of the gun: 871 x 341.6 x 148.1 mm
Operating temperature range: -20 to +55
But Hikvision achieved success not only in the fight against UAV, but also developed its drones. In addition, there are developments in robotics and automation of familiar and inconspicuous, seemingly, procedures – for example, in car parking. If you are interested in these topics, then leave the questions in the comments, and I will definitely talk about this in later materials.
In the meantime, I propose to look at the gun in action.
I do trust all of the ideas you have introduced for your post.
They’re really convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are too brief for starters.
May just you please prolong them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
