If you look at the picture from the fashion mobile game named “Clothes forever”, you will easily recognize that it is a blatant copy of Selena Gomez. Except for being 180 degrees flipping, there is no other change in the character.
However, Selena Gomez didn’t forgive them. She is trying every possible option that she has. The publisher of the game is from China while the Developer is from the UK. She is suing them $10 million for the use of her picture and many people think that she has every right to do so.
In the suit, Gomez claims that the creators of the game “never requested, consulted or informed Gomez”. She added that he was never aware of the usage of her publicity rights. If you look at the girl in the game, she is exactly the same as Selena Gomez.
While people think she is doing the right thing, Gomez is not stopping here. Like almost every mobile game, Clothes Forever also makes money with in-app purchases. They exploit their players to spend real money on buying diamonds that will be used to play the game. One-time purchases may reach up to $99.99.
In her suit, Selena Gomez also stated that even if she were asked, she wouldn’t have permitted it. The reason is that this game is a waste of people’s precious money with no fruitful outcome. It is just imaginary spending on clothes, and it is just exploiting people to spend money on the useless thing.
Well, this is a very critical part of the suit. Celebrities are role models to a lot of people. They should not allow this type of game to use their reputation for exploiting people. When celebrities arrive in these useless games, kids get encouraged to wasting money, which is very bad.
Some people are comparing this move of Selena Gomez from that of Lindsay Lohan. At the time she sued GTA V, she had no proof of her appearance in the game. She said that her personality is copied. However, she couldn’t prove it in court as the ruling stated that it was an anonymous character with traits of over 20 women.
On the other hand, the case of Gomez is very simple. The developer just flipped the image and used it as it is. It seems that the game is also taken down from the App Store.
