Pringles Thief: A serial shoplifter with a penchant for Pringles has learned the hard way that “once you pop, you can’t stop” doesn’t apply to jail time. Adam Spencer, 40, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to a string of robberies and thefts after a police chase that ended his criminal snack spree.
A Sticky Situation
Spencer’s reign of flavor terror began in April, targeting various shops in the Sutton-in-Ashfield area. He hit a Tesco first, followed by Asda and Iceland stores, but his true passion seemed to lie with the iconic potato chip brand. On May 2nd, security cameras captured Spencer breaking into an Iceland store twice in the same morning, stealing meat products on his first visit and returning for a £300 haul later. In total, his thievery included a whopping 17 tubes of Pringles.
Pringles Thief Caught Red-Handed (or Should We Say, Chip-Fingered?)
Police finally caught up with Spencer on Tuesday after identifying him as a suspect in the robberies. He attempted a daring escape on his bicycle, but officers on foot were hot on his heels, apprehending him shortly after.
Justice Served (Without a Side of Pringles)
Spencer faced the music at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and three counts of theft. While he avoided immediate jail time, receiving a six-month sentence suspended for 12 months, the thievery came at a cost. Spencer was ordered to pay £200 in compensation and complete a drug rehabilitation program.
“The actions of prolific thieves like Spencer can have a real negative impact on communities,” said PC Dean Fenton of Nottinghamshire Police. “We were pleased to put him before the courts and hold him accountable for his crimes.”
The case of Pringles Thief serves as a reminder that even seemingly harmless snack-related thefts can have serious consequences. Let’s hope Spencer finds a more legitimate way to satisfy his cravings in the future.
