Sending Christmas cards has always been a tradition, helping to keep in touch with friends and family and spreading a little holiday cheer. But in recent years, a new twist has crept into our inboxes with funny Christmas cards. These cards do more than just express warm wishes; they also make people laugh and smile, which is a fun change from the stock family photo cards most people send.
Why Choose Humor?
At the heart of the holiday season, humor uplifts and provides greater memories. Funny Christmas cards offer senders the opportunity to express their personality and creativity, resulting in occasional belly laughs from an unexpected recipient. Oftentimes, rather than sending the typical pristine family snapshot, these cards result in unconventional images, witty puns, or humorous drawings that embody the season’s mood in a truly original manner.

Types of Funny Christmas Cards
If you are also interested in sending funny Christmas cards, here are a few types that you will find:
- Cards with Humorous Puns: These cards tend to include playful word plays on Christmas-related topics. A card, for example, might say, “Yule be sorry if you don’t have a Merry Christmas!” Such puns can bring giggles, and are best for wordplay fans.
- Funny drawings: Many humorous cards have nice, playful, or ridiculous illustrations. Imagine a reindeer with sunglasses or Santa stuck in a chimney—the images can be funny and festive.
- Family Portrait + Fun: Other families go all out and create their own family photoshoots. Whether they come dressed in silly costumes or staging an over-the-top scene, these personalized cards are often the center of conversations.
- Sarcastic or Cheeky Messages: These sorts of cards are often popular for their cheeky or sarcastic messages. Messages like “Merry Christmas! I hope you have a family as dysfunctional as mine!” will resonate with anyone who loves humor based on real-life family situations.
Make Your Own Card
If you’re feeling inspired to make your own funny Christmas card, here are a few things to consider:
- Take Themed Photos: Create a mini photoshoot at home by styling family members in a specific theme! Capture the essence of your family’s sense of humor through props, costumes, etc.
- Share wit in the text: Add clever quotes or jokes that define your character. Feel free to be playful or cheeky!
- Pick the Right Design: Go for a card design that fits your style of humor—vibrant and cheerful or minimalist with a few clever lines.
- Get Your Kids Involved: Allow the children to enter the creative process; the humor that will come out of their innocence will be unique and will enhance your card.
