Dog caught the bus
Ever seen an animal get public transport on their own? It’s not something we expect to see, but for one UK woman it was her dog, Frank, that decided to take himself on a trip. Thankfully, there was a happy ending after the dog caught the bus.
Frank the dachshund decided to catch the number 76 bus from his home of Colchester, a town near London in the UK, to Clacton, another town near the beach 18 miles away. While we might sometimes find it tempting to drop everything and get a free ride to the beach, it’s not all too often that we hear of our four-legged friends doing the same.
Owner Michelle Ballard was of course sick with worry, and arranged a search party including everyone from friends to schoolchildren. Eventually, a passenger on the bus, Michael, spotted Frank, and arranged with the driver that he would take the dog back to his Clacton home while they tried to reunite him with Michelle.

Luckily, he came across a Facebook post about the lost dog, and so contacted the person responsible for the post. “He took him in for the evening and was going to take him to the vet in the morning, but his family spotted the post on Facebook. My partner Jonathan picked him up at about 7pm.” said Michelle of the ordeal, relieved that there was a happy ending.
Michelle has another dog, Charlie, and a two-year-old son, Freddie, who were both happy to see their brother safely back home after the dog caught the bus. It was out of character for Frank, as Michelle said that he had never done anything of the sort previously, and she hopes that he won’t feel like doing it again – next time, he might not be as fortunate.
Frank has a rival for the title of most independent pet. Pumpkin the cat was banned from a supermarket last year because she kept strolling inside – although of we tend to expect this behavior from cats more than dogs! That said, dogs and their owners can do things a little unexpected. Has your pet ever gone traveling on their own? Let us know!
