Local Pub
Many people like to build extensions or sheds in their garden, but this woman took it to another level, by building a pub in her back yard. Jayne Tapper, from Devon in the UK, was tired of her husband Paul often going to his local pub for a beer, so she decided to bring the pub right outside her house for the couple and their family to enjoy. And of course, it’s much cheaper than buying drinks at the local pub too, so it’s been successful.
She’s called the pub “The Doghouse Inn”, giving a new meaning to the term ‘in the doghouse’, and is the proud landlady of the new establishment. It won’t just be Paul who’ll use the new pub. As Jayne’s a mother-of-three with three basset hounds too, the family will be using the pub for parties and as an alternative to being inside the house or at the local pub. With their children aged from 26 to 31, they all enjoy going round and saving money on drinks, and Paul’s friends also come over to enjoy the pub.
They didn’t do any of this half-heartedly – Jayne bought a space invader game for £650 to go in the pub, a church pew for £100, and the work on the garden and building came to almost £20,000. It might have been expensive, but it’s certainly been a hit with their family and friends. One of their friends even made a sign for the pub with one of their pet dogs on, making it look similar to the local pub
Building A Pub
If you want to build a pub in your garden, or even turn your shed into one, it’s definitely achievable. Jayne and Paul aren’t the first people to do it, as the trend became popular on Pinterest a few years ago. There’s even a ‘Shed of the Year’ contest in the UK, and pubs have won in the past. It might sound like to sort of thing you’d built on a game like The Sims, but if it’s doable in real life, why not try it? It’s one of the more unusual things you can do with your garden, but it’s an interesting idea.
