A lone inn in rural Ireland. Ashes to scatter. Rumors of a witch. That’s all you need for spine-tingling intrigue, right? In the first look at Hokum, NEON and Oddity filmmaker Damian McCarthy invites us into this unsettling world, with Adam Scott leading the charge.
Whispers in the Walls
Scott plays a horror novelist who travels to this remote spot, ostensibly to lay his parents to rest. But with every creak and shadowy corridor, the place seems alive—and not in a friendly way. I’ll admit, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that grainy photo NEON dropped. Is it the flick that finally makes me dread remote cottage stays? Possibly. And honestly, that’s exactly the kind of unnerving twist I live for.
Star Power and Production Chatter
Alongside Scott, Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin) bring extra weight to the cast. On the producing side, you’ve got Roy Lee and Steven Schneider—names that guarantee a boundary-pushing ride—and Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy, plus Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde and Mairtín de Barra. Executive producers Ben Ross, Dan Kagan, Rami Yasin and Andrew Childs round out a team that’s nothing short of formidable.
Schneider’s enthusiasm is contagious: “With Damian McCarthy’s fresh and unique approach behind the camera and the amazing Adam Scott bringing his talent to the lead role, ‘Hokum’ is shaping up to be something truly special.” Bold talk, but if the first image is any guide, I’m ready to be convinced.
