A mischievous badger made an unexpected appearance at a skate park in Cornwall, England, but soon found itself in need of assistance to escape from a steep-edged bowl.
Volunteer Dave Hudson from the Cornwall Badger Group was called to the Newquay Skate Park on Sunday to help the curious badger, which had wandered into the facility and become trapped in the bowl, a skating surface similar to an empty swimming pool.
The Skate Park’s Unlikely Visitor
A video shared on Facebook by the group captures Hudson using a blanket and a plank of wood to create a makeshift ramp for the badger to climb to safety.
“I’d taken this massive blanket in case I needed to scoop him up, so I popped that on the side of the ramp and he had a little go, and initially pulled the whole thing in there with him,” Hudson told the BBC.
Hudson highlighted the presence of an increasing urban badger population in and around Newquay, emphasizing that these animals are not aggressive and prefer to keep their distance from humans.
“There is an increasing population of badgers, urban badgers, and there’s a fair few badgers in and around Newquay,” Hudson noted.
“They’re not vicious animals, they don’t want to interact with humans, they’d rather keep their distance and disappear.”
The heartwarming rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of wildlife conservation and coexistence, even in unexpected places like a skate park. It’s a testament to the kindness and compassion of individuals like Dave Hudson, who go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of our furry friends.”
