Ugly House
Would you buy the ‘ugliest house on the street’? When there are so many perfectly pleasant houses to buy, you might not think it would be worth buying an ugly house and spending time and money fixing it up. However, that’s exactly what one British mom has spent the last few years doing.
Mom-of-two Joanna Lewis, from the county of Kent in the UK, bought the so-called ‘ugliest house on the street’ three years ago, determined to give it an unbelievable makeover before moving in with her fiancé and young children further on down the line.
When she bought the then-ugly house, it had just one bedroom and one bathroom, and a narrow, square-shaped layout. Of course, she had to work with what she had, but this made the outcome even more amazing and surprising.
Whereas previously the bathroom and bedroom were downstairs alongside the kitchen, she transformed the space into an open-plan kitchen and nursery – in part by adding an extension onto the house going into the backyard and breaking a dividing wall down.
Shocking Changes
The young family even added another floor onto the house, creating two balconies overlooking the North Sea and a grand total of four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Even the décor and theme of the house has been markedly changed, as the house now has a much more modern appearance in stark contrast to the 1970s-style house Joanna started with in 2017.
The shocking changes have been well-received, with Joanna’s recent social media posts getting a lot of social media attention from people amazed at her work. We might expect these sorts of transformations from celebrities in their mansions and country houses, but when it’s pulled off by a family on a budget it’s even more amazing.
Joanna and her family aren’t the only ones to make stunning changes to their homes, however. Last year, one family built a pub in their garden, while we’ve all seen the TV shows featuring homes getting stunning transformations.
