A missing woman was discovered inside a giant python after locals cut the snake open. Farida, 45, had gone missing on Thursday night and was found the next day in the village of Kalempang, South Sulawesi province, according to local officials.
The search for Farida, a mother of four, began when she failed to return home on Thursday night. Village chief Suardi Rosi told AFP that her husband discovered her belongings, which raised his suspicions. Villagers then scoured the area and soon noticed a Giant python with a noticeably large belly.
“They agreed to cut open the python’s stomach. As soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible,” Suardi said.
Farida’s body was found fully clothed inside the massive reticulated python, which measured at least 16 feet long. Her husband, Noni, expressed deep regret, saying,
“If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her. I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family.”
While such occurrences are rare, they are not unheard of in Indonesia. Last year, residents in Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district killed a 26-foot-long python that was found strangling and eating a local farmer. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was discovered inside a 23-foot-long python in Muna town, and in the previous year, a farmer in West Sulawesi was found being consumed by a 13-foot python at a palm oil plantation.
The Giant reticulated python, native to Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Borneo, is the world’s longest snake. These snakes primarily feed on rodents, but larger specimens have been known to prey on pigs, civets, bearcats, and even primates.
The longest reticulated python ever recorded was 32 feet long and weighed 350 pounds, according to Reptiles Magazine.
