A chance encounter with a guardian angel, or perhaps a well-chosen accessory, saved a man’s life during a heated argument last Tuesday. Police in the Denver suburb are calling it a stroke of incredible luck after a thick chain necklace intercepted a bullet headed for the victim’s neck.
The incident unfolded during a disagreement that escalated far beyond anyone’s anticipation. Details surrounding the argument remain undisclosed, but what followed was a moment that could have turned tragic.
A shot rang out, the metallic projectile aimed at a vital target. However, fate, or perhaps a bit of fashion sense, intervened.
Colorado Close Call: Bullet Lodged in Necklace
The victim, whose identity is being withheld for safety reasons, was wearing a thick chain necklace. The metal barrier, estimated at around 10 millimeters wide, proved to be the ultimate shield.
The bullet, identified as a .22 caliber, struck the necklace with enough force to become lodged within its links. While the impact left the necklace bloodied and marred, it undoubtedly saved the man’s life. Remarkably, he sustained only a minor puncture wound.
“This is one for the record books,” remarked Lieutenant Martin Rodriguez of the Colorado Commerce City Police Department.
“We often use the phrase ‘dodged a bullet,’ but in this case, it’s more accurate to say ‘lodged a bullet!’ This chain undoubtedly took the brunt of the impact, and we’re incredibly grateful it held.”
Sharing photos of the damaged necklace on their Facebook page, the Colorado Commerce City PD added a touch of humor to the situation. “Looks like our victim has a new lucky charm,” they wrote. “
Although, we have a feeling it wasn’t pure silver. A softer metal might not have been as effective. Maybe this is a lesson in appreciating quality over quantity, even when it comes to jewelry.”
The suspected shooter was apprehended at the scene and faces attempted murder charges. While the investigation into the argument’s origin continues, one thing is certain: this man’s necklace went from a fashion statement to a life-saving shield, a testament to the unexpected twists of fate and the potential for everyday items to become extraordinary protectors.
