Max the Cat Graduates with Honors at Vermont University

Vermont State University’s Castleton campus has conferred the honorary degree of “Doctor of Litter-ature” upon Max the cat, a beloved figure within its community. This special recognition comes just ahead of the students’ graduation ceremony on Saturday, adding an extra layer of joy and charm to the event.

Max, a popular tabby, has been acknowledged not for his traditional feline skills of mousing or napping, but for his exceptional friendliness and the positive impact he has made on the campus community.

Max the Cat has been an affectionate member of the Castleton family for years,” the university shared in a Facebook post, highlighting his integral role in campus life.”

Residing with his human family on the street leading to the main entrance of the campus, Max found his way to the university grounds and made it his second home.

“He decided that he would go up on campus, and he just started hanging out with the college students, and they love him,”

said Ashley Dow, Max’s owner. Max’s daily presence has become a familiar and comforting sight for students and faculty alike.

For the past four years, Max has been a regular presence on campus, delighting students who eagerly take selfies with him and often pick him up for a cuddle. His friendly and sociable nature has endeared him to everyone, making him a favorite among the student body.
