Needham, Massachusetts – Talk about a double dose of excitement! Pollard Middle School in Needham, Massachusetts, witnessed a graduation ceremony unlike any other on Wednesday. This year’s graduating class boasted an incredible 23 sets of twins, making up a remarkable 10% of the eighth grade!
“It’s quite unusual,” said Principal Tamatha Bibbo, clearly surprised by the high number.
“We typically have anywhere from five to 10 sets at most. Given our numbers, with approximately 450 to 500 children in each grade, this was extraordinarily high.”
Massachusetts Middle School Twins Make History
The sheer number of twins wasn’t the only story. The unexpected abundance of multiples added a layer of surprise and amusement, even among the graduates themselves. “Some of them, I just didn’t even know were twins,” said Brayden Mahoney, who graduated alongside his twin sister Lauren. “Some don’t even know we are twins,” he added, highlighting the uncanny ability of some twins to blend seamlessly within the school environment.
Pollard Middle School in Massachusetts embraced the unique situation, giving a special shout-out to the graduating twins during their “moving up” ceremony. This heartwarming gesture acknowledged the special bond these siblings share and the unique experiences they’ve had navigating middle school together.
But the story doesn’t end there. This year’s graduating class also witnessed a first in the school’s history. A set of twins, Lukas and Sameer Patel, were the first ever recipients of the Needham Exchange Club’s community service award together. Their dedication to service learning exemplifies the spirit of the school community and highlights the potential for collaboration, even among twins with distinct personalities.
Nationally, twins account for around 3% of live births, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Pollard Middle School’s graduating class has surpassed this rate by a significant margin, creating a truly unique and memorable experience for students, teachers, and families alike.
With a record-breaking number of Twin Graduation, this year’s graduation ceremony at Massachusetts School undoubtedly left a lasting impression, reminding everyone of the special bond and camaraderie that twins share.
