Back in the days, black people were considered to be lesser than white men. There have been a lot of events in the past that shaped the new rules for black men. During that period, it was thought that black people need to be segregated; hence they opened separate schools for black and white kids. There were a lot of similar examples that show the same kind of inequality between both. But during the 20th-century black history, some of the most unforgiving and misfortunate events took place, which caused rage in black people. They caused riots and strikes to highlight the injustice, and due to their efforts, new laws and rules were made in the society to lt the world know that black people were not less than anyone.
The Chicago Race Riot of Chicago 1919
The Chicago race riot originated when a white man caused a black man to drown. The event resulted in fury between white and black men. Basically, during the years 1916 to 1919, black men coming to Chicago for work caused jealousy and competition in white men, and they started resented them. This Chicago riot is considered to be the worst one in 20th-century black history.
Emmett Till Murder
In the year of 1955, a teen boy named Emmett Till went to Mississippi to visit her family, but a week later, he was dead. The reason that caused this teenage boy to die was that he whistled at a white man’s wife. The man, along with his brother, kidnapped him and then shot him to death.
Joe Louis knocked out Max Schmeling
During a boxing match in 1938, an African American boxer was defeated by a German Schmeling. This caused the Nazis to brag that no black man can overcome them. Later a rematch happened between them, but this time, Louis defeated Germany Schmeling by knocking him down three times.
Boycott of Montgomery Bus
In 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for the reason that she did not give her bus seat to a white man. Her arrest led to a boycott of 381 days. Due to this protest, segregation’s seating was considered unconstitutional in 1956. This is also one of the significant events of 20th-century black history.
Brown vs Board of Education
In 1896, it was announced by the courts that black and white kids would attend different schools, but the schools assigned to black kids had no proper facility. This difference led to a lot of protests, and in 1954, segregation was removed.
The uprising of Los Angeles
A tape got out where four police officers were beating a black motorcyclist named Rodney King. The first trial acquired those police officers, which results in black men to riot, so during the second trial, two of those police officers were held accountable and were convicted of murder.
The assassination of Martin Luther King
The most important event of 20th-century black history was when Martin Luther King was shot dead in 1968 during the striking sanitation workers march. His murder resulted in riots all actions in America. His murderer was soon arrested and got sentenced to 99 years in prison.
