Imagine going shopping and getting ready to leave the store, but then realizing that the doors are closed, and you’re locked inside. It’s the sort of thing you’d have dreams – or nightmares – about as a child, getting your fill of toys or sweets in an empty store. But for one woman, it became a reality.
A young woman took to Twitter to say that she was locked inside a WHSmith a bookstore in the UK. She tweeted her story in real-time, letting her followers and friends know just what was going on while she was stuck inside the book and stationery store.
What happened in the store?
If you’re going to be locked inside a store, you could do a lot worse than WHSmith. Selling drinks and snacks, there was no fear of going hungry or thirsty; one of the security guards outside told her to take a drink. Meanwhile, her friends were certainly being kept entertained, one telling her as she was in a bookstore, to ‘read a book’ and another advising that she spend the time eating chocolate.
Some people might prefer to be locked inside a clothes store, so they have the space and time to get that perfect seasonal look, but then – what if you need a drink? At least the woman was able to stay hydrated.
How did she get out?
The shopping mall that WHSmith is in closes at 6pm, so she thought she would have enough time to buy what she needed. Unfortunately, at 5:40pm she noticed that the lights had turned off, and all of the staff had left, meaning that she was locked inside. She was eventually rescued, after making a phone call to the shopping mall, as WHSmith staff from a different store were able to release her.
After the incident, WHSmith have been trying their best to make it up to her, giving the woman a gift box, while the regional manager has personally apologised too. Everything went well in the end, as everybody saw the funny side of an event that doesn’t happen every day.
