The conflict erupted after negotiations between the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) broke down. As of late Friday night, the session remained deadlocked. Focus Taiwan reported that five legislators were hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the clashes. The injured included DPP members Chung Chia-pin, Chiu Chih-wei, Chuang Jui-hsiung, and Puma Shen, as well as Wu Tsung-hsien from the KMT.
